On Wednesday, June 30, 2021 a team made up of volunteers, Village for Vets staff, and the Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing Team from Step Up gathered to prepare thirty two newly renovated apartments for homeless veterans. Move-in kits, donated by Village for Vets have all the basic essentials from pots and pans, to soap and hygiene kits to start vets off on the right foot in this new chapter of their life. This location is one of three converted motels expected to open to house homeless veterans by spring of 2022. In addition to the move-in kits, each apartment was left cleaned with a hand written welcome home letter provided by students from Brentwood School.

Veteran homelessness in Los Angeles has been reduced by half since 2011. However, with more than 3900, we are home to more homeless veterans than any other US city. “Initiatives like this one are a meaningful step toward ending veteran homelessness in LA.” said Marcie Polier Swartz, founder of Village for Vets.
