[Newsletter] Village for Vets COVID-19 Update
The team at Village for Vets hope you and yours are healthy and safe during these tumultuous times.
As the COVID-19 crisis continues to ravage Los Angeles, we have been honored to evolve our programs to meet the growing need among our homeless and at-risk veterans.
Learn more about our COVID-19 efforts on our newly updated website www.villageforvets.org. We're grateful for a new grant from Cedars-Sinai Health Systems to help fund our emergency meals response. Any gift you can give to help us continue to serve this daily need and to fill critical gaps in services for homeless and at-risk veterans is extremely appreciated. It will make your day!
I’m grateful to share Village for Vets News with you, and grateful for your support.
Safest best,
Marcie
VILLAGE FOR VETS ON KNBC NEWS 4
KNBC News 4 featured our new program providing three meals a day, seven days a week, in partnership with Brentwood Schools, to the homeless veterans taking refuge from COVID-19 at the VA’s safe camping site, known as CTRS. Veterans can stay in a tent, safely socially distanced, with access to bathroom and washing facilities and VA social workers to connect them to other VA programs they may be eligible for. While the VA can provide a space for these veterans, they can’t provide meals. That’s where Village for Vets comes in .View Video >>
DRAMATIC INCREASE IN EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE APPLICATIONS
The Village for Vets Emergency Fund provides short-term financial assistance to at-risk veterans experiencing a financial emergency that imperils their housing, employment, or health. At-risk veterans have been hit especially hard by the economic impact of the COVID crisis, since they’re likely to work in “gig” or hourly positions and have seen their work and pay drop precipitously. There have been three times the referrals to our emergency grant program over the past month, and with LA’s eviction moratorium coming to an end we expect many more. We are carefully awarding the generous grants from American Legion Post 283, Tech Sgt Jack Kushner, Ret’d Foundation and Annenberg Foundation to provide small emergency funds to keep at-risk vets from backsliding into homelessness, and working overtime to find additional resources.
